The world does not revolve around English. German, French, Danish, Dutch, Italian--these are fine, noble languages. I'm learning them myself--albeit my progress is relatively slow, I cannot wait to be able to converse with these people in their language. I suggest you do the same if you wish to understand their comments.
Haydn's epic masterpiece here is brilliantly performed!

Alles schön und gut. Super Melodie, danke an Herrn Haydn.

Not for the Austrians, but for the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. People forget that Austria was the ruling principle of the Reich for almost 400 years. The idea of Austrian statehood as opposed to "Germaness" is a very new one.

Ein schones lied!

WONDERFUL!

This really is the finest rendering of the great emperor- Quartet that I have ever heard. This movement was adapted by Haydn for the Austrians for their National anthem until the fall of Austro-Hungary, when it was adopted by the Germans for their NA. Never to be confused with the nazi party!!!

@TheCourtwick But was it not Hitler who made Germany take the Austrian tune as he thought the anthem should be the same for all of "Germany", correct me if I'm wrong?

@moltoallegro19
You are wrong! This has nothing 2 do wth Hitler. Even Wikipedia got it right: "In order to endorse its republican and liberal tradition, the song was chosen for national anthem of Germany in 1922, during the Weimar Republic."
