NIGHT CALLER (1975) Part 3

To close this spotlight on the obscure Anthony Spinelli thriller NIGHT CALLER, we reach the climax of the film, where Robert finally has the object of his twisted desires all to himself. Posing as the hero who will scare off the obscene phone caller, he slyly reveals his true identity to her and after forcing himself on her, finally gets his comeuppance in a still rather uncertain finale.

While LYN CARTER from the same year provided an intelligent approach to discussing the human sex drive and its affect on American married life, NIGHT CALLER is a sleazy thriller, through and through, but a stylish one. The villain of the piece is caught, but the connotation is given that this isn't over... Screenwriter Dean Rogers twists the psychological screws splendidly throughout, and special attention must also be paid to the electronic music score, which does its job in unnerving the viewer during key tense moments.
