This is the 5th butterfly to hatch from our second group of caterpillars. Things have gone much more successfully with this group. Our first set saw only 2 out of 20 go on to fly away. This time we're 5 for 5!

Bio, when things go right, they do hatch pretty fast. We raised quite few last year and often things went badly. I saw them still attached to their chrysalis several times as well. Those Monarchs didn't make it.

They're late this year. Last July we had lots of caterpillars. This year they're just starting to lay eggs. Not sure why things are so different.

There's a bunch of good reading on the net about these interesting creatures. It's amazing that any of them make it.
