This week the US Department of Defense released the names of 9 military personnel who died, while serving in the United States armed forces.

Spc. Corey J. Kowall, 20, of Murfreesboro, TN.,

Pfc. William L. Meredith, 26, of Virginia Beach, VA.,
Pfc. Jeremiah J. Monroe, 31, of Niskayuna, N.Y.,
Spc. Damon G. Winkleman, 23, of Lakeville, OH.,

Update: US military deaths in Afghanistan region at 767
As of Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at least 767 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.
Of those, the military reports 588 were killed by hostile action.
Outside the Afghan region, the Defense Department reports 70 more members of the U.S. military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Of those, three were the result of hostile action. The military lists these other locations as Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba; Djibouti; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Jordan; Kenya; Kyrgyzstan; Philippines; Seychelles; Sudan; Tajikistan; Turkey; and Yemen.
There were also four CIA officer deaths and one military civilian death.

  • GOD BLESS!!! The Winkleman family and all who lost their brothers,sisters,sons,daughter­s,moms, and dads!!! Damon and all who gave their lives will be greatly missed but never forgotten! May the sunshine down on their families and help their hearts to heal!!!!

  • I was honored to attend Damon Winkleman's funeral and I was so proud of the patriotism and respect shown! What a wonderful tribute to these fallen heroes!! Thank you for posting this!

  • Spc Michael Cote was my best friend. From when we first came to a flight company together thru deployment all the way to that tragic flight we were on together. It hurt me to see you that way that day but i know now that you are safe in god's loving hands. I miss you brother. This never gets easy :(

  • RIP PFC Jeremiah Monroe, I love and miss you. Jeremiah was my cousin. His Dad died 6 months ago. WE also lost two more uncles, and my mom. All from the same Family. Now we have lost Jeremiah, Thank you for serving our country, you were a hero to your family, as well as your country. His Brother Is also in the service. Lord watch over him, my nephew, and all those in harms way.
