I recently played in concert with Altan and had the privilledge of meeting the group. When Altan Performed this song it sent shivers down my spine. They have not been recognized enough for there beautiful. Mairéad is an excellent singer/performer and does Ireland proud every time she sings.

Just for some translation help, "machree" is not the Gaelic word. "A run (or ruin) mo chroi" means "love of my heart" or plainly, "my love." So, "Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí" means "close your eyes my love"

sağolasın ;)
the song is about a mother singing her hungry child to sleep by promising the father will be coming home with food tomorrow. I remember this song (and the explanation) from when i was a child. I had a video tape of a lullaby special that had aired on Disney. sadly the tape wore out, but my mom finally found the CD online last year, so i have all my lullabies again. (the CD is called Til their eyes shine if anybody else might be looking for it.)
