The group IZVOR from Vranje (Serbia) preserves and performs the traditional Balkan music, that is part of national heritage of the Serbs, Bulgarians, Macedonians, Gorans, Greeks and Turks. The members of the group have played together since January, 2004, but they were previously devoted to the same kind of music either by family origin (Ivana Tasic) or in their individual or group work. Their interpretation of traditional songs is formed with the help of experience in collecting of field musical recordings both in original town environments and in remote and inaccessible mountain areas, as well as with adopting of traditional knowledge directly from the masters of instruments in Macedonia and Greece, and by using original traditional instruments together with preserving the specific Balkan musical scales.
Beside performing, the people who make up the group also search for and collect field musical recordings both in original town environments and in remote and inaccessible mountain areas of the above mentioned parts of the country. With the help of such experience and by using original traditional instruments (tapan, tarabuka, saz, tambura, cemane etc.) together with an original way of singing, and preserving the specific Balkan musical scales, they try to base their interpretation of the traditional music on the authentic comprehension of its original spirit. The group IZVOR had concerts in many towns in Serbia, Macedonia, Greece, Slovenia, France and Spain.
