This song was originally recorded in 1927 and is not exactly a ringing endorsement of cocaine abuse. Cocaine became rampant in the U.S. around the turn of the 19th century. It was used as a pain killer in amputations and dental work as well as for headache medicine, cough suppressants and even added to coffee and soda pop. It was banned in 1916 when it was realized that the drug was widespread and having serious social effects. This song is part of American history and is put here because I feel it is as true today as it was then. Learn your history or else you are doomed to repeat it.

My version is pretty much the same as the version posted by David Bromberg on guitar workshop, except the other one is played by David Bromberg and he remembers the words! ;) He explains in that clip that he does this with most of the rolls and licks taught to him by Gary Davis. Hope you like it!

  • Steve -

Really nice job here. It's really interesting hearing this on a 6 string. Bromberg played this at mach 2 on a 12 string on his album "My Own House", which was a terrific album altogether. Damn the furniture man!

  • @specialrider54 Thanks I appreciate it, I don't think Bromberg made a bad album or I haven't found it yet :)
