I'm guessing this is the best hockey performance category for the ESPN sports awards show, the ESPY's in 1997. They allowed people to vote on the internet, I believe. This was therefore clip #1. Detroit at home won 5-4 in overtime. Sergei Federov gave the Red Wings a wonderful gift one day after Christmas, 1996. The "Russian 5" was together on the ice, with fellow Russian teammates providing all but one of the assists (one of the two assists was from Brendan Shanahan on the 3rd goal). Jim Carey is the Washington goalie. Chris Berman of ESPN introduces the clip, the Washington Capitals announcer I'm guessing is Joe Beninati. I got this from the internet, so quality again is fair, not good--if someone else has a better quality one of this, good. I'm trying to post something that no-one else seems to have posted/has. For other sports clips, you can also look at the playlists (such as the Detroit Red Wings playlist) on my channel or the channel itself for the videos. This is purely for entertainment purposes only, I am not nor will not earn anything from this.

  • Just phenomenal plays by an even better player. I remember that year when Sergei was struggling mightly up to this point, fans, the press, all were clamouring for his departure. Fast forward to June of 1998..two Stanley Cups later..shazaam.

  • @wantsome480 What the hell are you talking about? He WAS a great. Hall of Famer first ticket, easy.

  • Funny that Caps was the last NHL team he played for :P

  • @HerrUhyre Gretzky and Lemiex couldn't play D, they would be just above average in today's NHL. Sergei would still be just as good as he was then today. Numbers don't mean a thing, especially considering the numbers that were put up in the 80s and early 90s, when skaters equipment was much improved and goalies were still using heavy leather pads from the 60s and were wearing cheap little masks and players blasted shots head high(which was a no no before masks).

  • I watched this game. Federov had potential to be a great but his ego got in the way.

  • @k0nko87 hes not the second best redwing ever, let alone second best player ever

  • @k0nko87 First being Yzerman? XD

I'm a Wings fan but Gretzky and Lemiuex are #1 and #2, Feds isn't even top 10.

  • Sergei, the second greatest player ever
