Melbourne Speed Club Skaters and Skating Moments.
This short film captures the essence of the club over the past 10 years.
The MSC 10YA Celebration
Some twelve years ago Wing of Steel (WOS) and
The Coachest with the Mostest got together to skate faster,
Then along came Nostrils Flaring
All corner shy but quite daring.
We bandied together to skate as a team.
For the first two years we skated under
The Eltham Club theme.
Soon realised that wasn't our scene,
They didn't appreciate our love for coffee
In fact the thought of it turned them quite green.
So in December 2000
Melbourne Speed Club was officially seen.
Over the years we have skated many places
In Melbourne and afar,
Skated internationally and just for pleasure
And we have met many salubrious characters along the way...
Wing of Steel who is so fast,
All modest and handsome
He loves to give skating his best blast.
The coachest with the mostest
Who's speed and technique is superior
Which over time has only got scarier.
Nostrils flaring set out blaring
Going so fast in her first race
She couldn't pull up her pace
And ended up going straight
Instead of around the bend.
There have been bronzed Italian men with no tops on, young Ed who we adored,
Skaters from Mount Buller Ski Race Team,
Young Nathan who ate his food like a woofer
And often blew his foofer.
Stevie J even had us on T.V.,
Lara G wanted concrete skates
But had to settle for customized Bonts,
Natalie used to be a regular and skate with the pack
Until she moved to the Outback.
We had Skaters from Bangladesh
Who wanted all things skating to be sponsored for free,
Skaters from London, Adam the Duckman
Who must be some kind of quack,
Rob from Kynton who hurt his knee.
David, an inspiration, with stamina to burn,
Into the wind he was the clubs salvation.
A skater called Igor joined us, he was fast as lightning,
Although recently he has had some groin tightening,
There once was a dentist who had a mouth problem,
Numerous ladies of airs and graces
But only a select few who liked to do races.
Ninja Bill who had a tangle with a car or two,
James H & James R who made a fast pair,
There was Jeremy B,
Peter J who was once used to shoot things
In the ski bi-athlon,
Park from Korea
But then he vanished into thin air.
Princess Eliza and King Ink came along
And raised the style of the club with as little as a smile,
A chance meeting with a flying Dutchman
Who loved it so much after one skate with us
Couldn't get enough so packed up his chattels
To re-patriate in OZ.
Alex came too, she was shy and pretty,
Not long after she was quite dizzy.
Blame Bas for getting very busy.
There was Peter E who proved he was no slow gherkin,
Along came Rob P who wears metal knees
To prevent him doing whoopsies,
There was Rapha and Iva the tortoise and the hare,
Really they looked such a handsome pair.
Yaki and Inna joined our group too,
Now Yaki likes to paddle around in his canoe.
Jo Carol came along and joined the crew
Only some months later we realized
She'd been upto naughties too.
Bernadette haven't seen you in action
Really hope you don't end up in traction.
We raced in The Australian Masters Games
For which our team skated for glory,
Team trips to Europe to skate through cobbled towns
And needing hairdryers due to a weather compounds,
Trips abroad meeting up with Bas and Raph.
Marathons in a motorbike training centre,
In fact marathons just about anywhere,
Nationals and Oceania's,
A race around Albert Park Lake in the pouring rain,
Physical Blade, A gig in the Melbourne Marathon
Where the bus driver decided to get his streets wrong,
Good Friday Skates many with crashes
But where would we be without a few skin patches,
Rickets Point, Halloween and Santa Skates,
Along many Freeways especially for openings,
Over the Bolte Bridge and down the scary side,
Lake Mountain Skate where
Nostrils Flaring went over the ditch
And did lots of swearing.
We've skated in shed when it did rain
Don't know if David B would do this in Spain.
We really have done a lot over the years ...
Thank you for being a part of our 10 year history.
Special thanks goes to DT as El Presidente, DG for his tireless contribution, Bas for his expertise in land training, to our committee, Igor for the special contribution as Speed Rep and because you are our most decorated member, and a special mention must be made to Eliza xx to you.
Thank you!
