Brother Rafael Arnáiz Barón, a Spanish Trappist monk, was canonized by Benedict XVI on October 11th in St. Peters Square. Beatified in 1992, John Paul II presented the Saint as a model for young people back in 1989 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain on the occasion of World Youth Day. An active member of the Nocturnal Adoration Association in Oviedo, Brother Rafael Arnáiz entered as a monk in the Trappist monastery of San Isidro de Dueñas in Spain in the year 1934. Four years after having entered the monastery, this Trappist monk died in a diabetic coma on April 26th, 1938 at the age of 27. The canonization process of this new Spanish saint was opened in 2005. It was approved at the beginning of 2009 after two recognized miracles: the recovery of a young person who was run over by a tractor and then miraculously saved; and the inexplicable healing of a 38-year-old woman who suffered from Hellp Syndrome during her pregnancy.Pope Benedict XVI recognized Brother Rafael as a model for all young people who seek to find the truth in God.
