I struggled making this video, it's the sort of thing you bury your head in the sand about, although i have been meaning to make one on this topic for a while, i think DarkMatter2525 recent video " The Ultimate Evil" gave me more motive.

Atheists seem to considered the traditional religious translations of biblical text as to be seen as the truth about God. if not, then they should show what they consider to be the error of traditional interpretation of the text, if they really want people to see the difference.
i for one have not seen this happen.

i will give you a little insight to why the flood story is symbolic. and that the number "40" is symbolic, and may not have been an actual event.
notice how often the number 40 appears in biblical text....

1/In the story of Noah and the Great Flood, it rains for "forty days and forty nights" (Gen 7:4, 12, 17; 8:6).

2/Moses spends "forty days and forty nights" on Mount Sinai when receiving the Law from God (Exod 24:18; cf. Deut 9:9-25).

3/Moses spends another "forty days and forty nights" on the mountain, encountering God a second time (Exod 34:28; cf. Deut 10:10)

4/In the days of Moses, the Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years, as mentioned in numerous biblical texts (Exod 16:35; Num 14:33-34; 32:13; Deut 2:7; 8:2-4; 29:5; Josh 5:6; Neh 9:21; Ps 95:10; Amos 2:10; 5:25; Acts 7:36, 42; 13:18; Heb 3:10, 17).

5/Moses was forty years old when he killed the Egyptian.

6/Moses' encounter with God in the burning bush takes place forty years later.

7/ According to the Synoptic Gospels, Jesus spent "forty days" in the desert before beginning his public ministry (see Mark 1:13; Luke 4:2). Matthew's Gospel even specifies that it was "forty days and forty nights" (Matt 4:2).

8/After his resurrection, Jesus appears to his disciples for forty days, before ascending into heaven (Acts 1:3).

9/The Philistine Goliath taunts the Israelite army for forty days before David fights him (1 Sam 17:16).

10/The prophet Elijah travels forty days and forty nights to Mount Horeb to encounter God (1 Kings 19:8).

11/The prophet Ezekiel lies on his right side for forty days to symbolize the sins of the people of Judah (Ezek 4:6).

12/The prophet Jonah preaches in the Assyrian capital, "Forty days more, and Ninevah shall be overthrown" (Jonah 3:4).

do you see a pattern? or just coincidence?

  • So, if I understand you right, you're saying that SOME humans treat SOME animals very badly. Whereas in the bible, god drowned EVERY animal (except those on the ark). Also, I'm not sure what difference it would make if the flood story is literal or not. The message seems to be the same.

  • @stampmaille perhaps you could explain why you think that if the story of Noah's ark isn't to be taken literally, it would give the same message?

  • @aaugoaa Well, it's a story about a god who became so upset at his creation that he was willing to destroy it all and start anew. Even if it's some sort of metaphor, I still think it sends a rather drastic and disturbing message about the mindset of the creator. I'm left wondering how there could be any sort of humane message in it.

  • @stampmaille the flood story is about how God is separated from humanity. and how to reunite with God. i have a video about it on my channel.

for me the flood story is a sad love story. for others it is a evil event, or a punishment.

    take your pick

    lol

  • @aaugoaa

    Sad love story?

Hold on, now how did you possibly get that out of the story of the flood?

God seems to have created people knowing full well what bad things would happen, and he still punishes us anyway. He created the environments and people we would be around, the basic cellular structure, and anything that may affect our choice. Then, he punishes us for mistakes that he basically forced into being.

That is evil, not love of any kind.

  • @YetAnotherInfidel if you were asked before you were born if you wanted your life, would you have said yes?

  • @aaugoaa dragonhearted is right, you did miss the point.Your right, humans are evil, but your so called god should be loving and kind.he shouldn't be cruel like humans.so please tell me why would he drown animals when he could just make them dissapear?is it to satisfy some childish urge?or is your god limited?the point that you seem to be entirely blind to is that none of your holy scripture makes sense.

  • I think you missed the point entirely. What does animal testing stuff have to do with the flood?

I am not sure what I might have said before I was born. Assuming I could think like I am now, it would be likely for me to wat to experience life.

  • this particular one of darkmatter's videos was meant mostly for comedy reasons, it is no argument against god, for god does not exist. The point of the video is to say that if you believe in the literal interpretation of the bible, you support cat murder, not that all christians support cat murder
