So what I mean is: Psychatry may be possible but if you put them in there they will either stay there for a few decades or won't even get out.
I understand that you think "death" is a harder punishment for them than psychatry but in death they can at least find rest, while they'd only suffer more if they were caged up again.
Sadly Psychatry isn't even an Institution that people are "helped" at anymore. They're just drugged and caged up.

Usually it takes a kid around 8-9 years to develop their own personality by learning from their parents/friends/surroundings maybe eben from the TV. From that point onwards "education" just means just making some little changes, while the personality stays the same to about 90%.
Hanzel and Gretel passed that age and it would even take them a few more years to actually trust anybody. And then, even if they did it would take decades (and thats only if it does actually work) to change their
