Sullivan is counted out at 0:54
(A Lubin Re-production): The passing of the championship of the world from John L. Sullivan to Jim Corbett in 1892, including the knockout. This historical footage is comprised of acryllic still frames spliced together with time-deteriorated remnants of the original nitrate film. Featuring the blow-by-blow of Don Dunphy.

  • I wish they would have done the entire fight punch by punch. That was a historical battle and unfortunately it was not filmed. I read an article that said the movie "Gentleman Jim" depicted the few rounds of the fight exactly as it occurred; with Ward Bond as John L, and Errol Flynn as Corbett. Flynn was a perfect choice .

  • @margot9230 From what I've read the fight was not the most entertaining or exciting to watch, but it was historical. In modern parlance, it was a clinker. If I picked a Sullivan fight to see it would be his fight with Ryan in '82 for the title. And a Corbett fight I'd like to see is his barge fight with Choynski in '89

  • This sounds like Don Dunphy.

  • @muskratrowdy well done

  • @margot9230 Oh wait that was a different fight.

  • @margot9230 I saw Jim Jacobs being interviewed showing some parts of the fight that was filmed.

  • @summer71ful Bullshit. A lot of champions refused to fight opponents for whatever reason. Doesn't mean he was ducking him. And doesn't take away from what he accomplished. He was the bareknuckle champion of the world, and also the first gloved champion of the world. And only had one loss in his career, his last fight.

  • i'd takem both out in less than ten minutes apiece.

  • John L Sullivan was no world champ, he refused to fight the top contender who was Peter Jackson. A real champ wouldnt not duck any fighter.

  • @simpsonsguy22 Night at the museum. hahah good one dumb fuck

  • @bigcrapper96 hard times

  • @simpsonsguy22

Back then, if the fight didn't go 20 rounds, you got your nickel back.

  • Yeah gay ment happy in the forties you idiots are easily amused

  • @eslubin Actually according to the book "John L Sullivan And He's America"

John L Sullivan died solvent. Buy no means wealthy, but he and his wife

did own there own house and property in Boston at the time of his death.

So maybe things do work out as they should.
