This is actually my very first composition. I started writing it in sixth grade when I was twelve.

It was always an untitled composition until about two years ago when I entitled it "Old School."

I changed the name for this video however.

Why did I want this piece to represent Childhood? Because I wrote it back when I was a child :).

However, you may notice this piece isn't happy and jolly all of the time. It becomes very sad, and even angry at a point.

My childhood was alright at first, but there was one tragic event that plummeted it to sadness. My mother had passed away when I was eleven.

It was hard to overcome, but I got through it. That would be the reason for the ending.

Hope you enjoy

Kyle

ps. keep in mind there has obviously been some huge improvements in this piece due to how much better I am now than when I wrote this.

  • I'm sure your mom would be very proud of you Kyle :)

  • Hey, Kyle.

You've said yourself that your current compositions are much improved. Of course, I've felt that too. But maybe because of it's simplicity I can understand it... The flash of both happiness, pain and heavy guilt... But it's not those emotions which you overcame that I wanted to comment on, I'm just saying that this piece is incredible even compared to your current amazing works, because it is filled with raw emotions. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your pieces with the world.

  • I wish I could play with as much emotion as you do. I play for hours to just hear the feeling..

  • This reminds me of Hawaii, Mililani. Used to live in apartments. There were these trees with large pods. I would collect them and float them in the bathroom sink. I came back 8 years after I left (was in middle at the time). The apartment complex looked so tiny and sadly there were no pods, but it looked exactly like I remembered it. I was glad I came back.

  • wow, you wrote this when you were twelve

  • Wow... Ive listened to about everything you've ever posted on youtube Kyle, and this is my FAVORITE to date.

The entire song is amazing every part builds off and contrasts the others. My favorite part is 1:20- 2:25 and i get chills at 1:53-1:56 ...

From begining to end this is PERFECT Kyle, thank you so much!!

  • @axltyler Strange, but one of my favorite chord progressions ever. =)

  • @piano3479 yes, that just occurred to me.

  • Kyle, this is amazing. The best compositions are ones with pure emotion driving them. This definitely is one of em

  • @axltyler Sounds like Brothers from Pearl Harbor. But this one has more rythmic texture

  • I swear the beginning of this song sounds like some famous piece of film score....

  • Dude, have you ever thought about composing film score music?
