After chatting with N3DRB (Derb) and W3RSW (Rick) for a few minutes on 3.730 Mhz I signed out and grabbed a bit of their continuing conversation with the camera. KB3AHE (Frank) checked in just after I signed out. The signals were quite strapping at times, but other mode QSO's were slowly closing in from all sides. The 3 stations ranged from 264 to 431 miles in distance from my location. Conditions should improve as winter moves in. The scope is an old Tektronix 485, the receiver in use is a Yaesu FRG-7700 in the 12kc bandwidth position, and the transmitter is my old class C plate modulated Johnson Viking I which has evolved into a Viking III running 160 watts output. The audio in the video is simply speaker to microphone, but you can definitely enjoy the fidelity of these good sounding AM transmitters!

  • Gotta love AM...

  • @AC6RH It is a lot of fun during the cold winter months! Nothing like the filaments of those 811A modulators to warm the room up on a freezing winter night!
