Arsenic is a one of two elements which does not melt at normal pressure (another one is carbon). But in sealed ampule it's possible to melt it at the temperature 817C and pressure 35 bar.
After beginning of the cooling down, As start to boil and re condense on the walls of ampule. Then quickly crystallize.
This video recorded without external light so you can see red hot ampule.

  • ca 200 milligrams. Dimensions of the ampoule is 5 mm OD, 3 mm ID 30 mm long.

    Ampoule was heated by small furnace with two quartz windows,

    :) yes, seems to be that Carbon is much harder to see in the molten state :)

  • wow. how much arsenic is in in there? how was the ampoule heated?

    i'd love to see it done with carbon but there would be no way to keep it under pressure and be able to look in on it.

    i suspect molten carbon looks like "oh good my eyes! it burns!"
