Bob Downe (the comic creation of Mark Trevorrow) really hit his stride in London, starring in his very own New Year's Eve TV show, THE BOB DOWNE SPECIAL, with guest stars including Ant & Dec, Martine McCutcheon and the late, great Anthony Newley. Here's the show opener, FAME - filmed in the huge, atmospheric London Weekend Television Studio 1, with legendary Music Director LAURIE HOLLOWAY. Broadcast 31 Dec 1996 on ITV.

  • Anyone remember Bob singing "Starman" on Cris Evans show "TFI Friday" back in the UK during the 90's?

I would love to see that again!!!

  • It was on VIVA CABARET in 1993 or 94, voodoomagic2008 !

  • I'll see if i can dig it out - Viva Cabaret with Lily i believe.

  • I had a huge crush on Bob Downe, and was gutted when an Australian friend pointed out that the hair and teeth were not real. Never got over that. Come back Bob!!!

  • HOW VERY DARE YOU... the teeth ARE real!!! the hair, however, i will admit, not so...

    :-(

  • AWESOME!!! Disco Diva Bob - I like it!!! So colourful and groovy!!! Looks like such a great TV special!!! Wish I could see the whole thing now!!!

  • @bobdowne4real That's it, Bob. All the untermensch ;)

Now shouldn't you be trolling public toilets rather than past glories on YT?

  • @gojira2006 my question he can sing

  • Awesome . . . !

  • Brilliant :) :) :) Love the hair teeth the lot :)

  • oh bob...the years of enjoyment you have provided!

  • I am crying with laughter while watching this. I remember Bob with Gail Tuesday singing that Lucky STar stong. This was a great era for comedy, what with him, Tommy Cockles, John Shuttlworth and more............

  • Jeez Bob, is that really YOU?? The version you did of Georgie Fame's "Yeah yeah" on Viva Caberet remains probably the funniest thing I've ever seen, certainly I remember laughing 'till it hurt! Is that on here?

  • Great post. Cheers.
