There is a loose cable behind the LCD Screen ... open the screen bezel and back cover and reattach all the cables behind the screen, you might also wanna reset the other end of the video cable attached to the motherboard .... if the problem is not solved , then you might have a defective VIDEO cable ... why ? cause everytime you open and close the LID the video cable is twisted up and down, and one day it gives up and the wire gets broken ...

I have a Gateway a month after I bought it the hard drive or something blew up (it was defected before I bought the laptop) and I've had problems with it ever since I bought it. And as well, It does the same thing yours is doing
