  • The noise and the power used to reverberate around York station - it's a magnificent sound that stays with you for ever.....

  • I remember touching a Deltic for the first time as a kid in York station and feeling awestruck. The noise, the vibrations when it was pulling out of the station were terrifieing yet exciting.

  • Sweet Sweet Napier Music!!!!!

    I am Luvin it!!!!!

    Go Deltics!!!!!

-Zontaar the Napier Luvin Alien :)

  • The name "deltic" refers to the name given by Napiers to the engine type. the cylinder bank cross section resembles the greek letter Delta. or an upside down triangle if you like. nothing to do with diesel electric.

  • a heavy train passed my house while i was watching this video and everything shaked a bit, very nice effect :P

(yes, i live that close to trains)

  • Wonderful film, this Deltic is amazing.

    Luiz

  • It seems strange to think that almost nothing of the original loco still exists..........its almost like reincarnation!

  • Awesome . I was born and still live near the Vulcan foundry where the Deltics were born . and just as they were scrapped they put them on the Liverpool Manchester run .. ( called at Earlestown at 18:00 ) ..I did see them at York many times too :) .

Oh the good old days !.

  • man wot a beast

  • Sorry to some of the responders but DELTIC refers to the upside-down triangle arrangement of the Napier diesel engine. It has pairs of opposed-piston cylinders arranged with one horizontally at the top and two either side pointing downwards with a crankshaft at each 'point' of the triangle. The letter Delta in the Greek alphabet being a triangluar shape. Its a fantastic design really. Look on Wikipedia for a diagram that makes more sense than a description!

  • It looks so un-aerodynamic!! Still awesome though.

  • The 185's sound good under that canopy but i think the Deltic has the edge on it.....
