Who is Steve Wozniak? What happened on Sunday, June 29, 1975?

The answer is immediately forthcoming, in fact, the title probably gave away the answer. I had to do something to hopefully get this video to come up in a search!

So here it is:

According to the book iWoz, by Steve Wozniak, June 29, 1975 was the day he was first able to type a letter on a keyboard and have it appear on a computer screen right in front of him. This was the birth of the modern day Personal Computer. Steve Wozniak was the engineer who designed, built and programmed the first Apple Computer. He designed several of the first Apple Computers. His friend Steve Jobs did the marketing.

So Happy Birthday PC!

Thanks for reading. Read all you want, I write more.

  • I have another reason for lovin' Woz..

    THE US FESTIVAL(S)!!

  • There was a chapter or two on the US festival in his book as well. It was pretty interesting, but noteworthy to state it was somewhat poorly written. He told the story, Gina Smith wrote it, I don't think she was a great choice. I was interested enough in the life of the business to read it all anyway, and enjoy it!

  • Cool, learn somethin' new every day!

  • I was startled when I read that. I thought surely this event would have happened earlier. At least the late 60's or early 70's...

  • have a look at the video "DEC VT05 video terminal from 1973 in action" for example...

  • I don't think that's quite true about the date and the 'first time anyone had seen their own typing on a screen in front of them" - i seem to recall doing that on a VAX terminal prior to 75... unless the key words are "OWN computer screen" meaning one needs to be the owner of that computer (?) technicality??

  • Thanks. How would one go about determining what is supposed to be their lucky day? Tuesday or Thursday might be my guess. Hard to say.

  • Oh wow! I remember hearing about this in a computer class way back when. It was even a quiz question at one point (and I got it right at the time).

  • It is hard to believe that personal computers are that young of an invention. I have been alive for the entire personal computer revolution. They are such a part of my life, and I can't imagine a world without them.
