The Worst Journey in the World

The Worst Journey in the World (2007) is a drama documentary by Mark Gatiss based on the book of the same title by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. The book is a memoir of the 1910-1913 British Antarctic Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott.

The journey Mark Gatiss' drama focuses on - the journey described by Cherry-Garrard as 'the worst journey in the world' because in spite of the sufferings they endured it had gained them little scientific knowledge - was a preliminary expedition by three men, including Cherry-Garrard, to a penguins' rookery to retrieve eggs. His two companions on this journey subsequently went on another expedition to the South Pole with Scott from which no one would return alive.
His experiences in the antarctic haunted Cherry-Garrard for the rest of his life.
