@abstractGBAM BBb is half the frequency of Bb, which means that it's produced by an instrument that is twice as long. Also, that the difference between positions is twice as long. As such, the positions are the same distance between one another on a double slide BBb trombone as they are on a single slide Bb trombone, while the bell section is twice as long and the various slide crooks add a a bit of length as well.
In short, no, it doesn't "lengthen the instrument way too fast".
