I love getting out at night. At first I thought ya'll stuck the lungs, but he went out quick. I stick them a bit more forward. A hogs heart if a bit forward from a deer, but I'm sure you know that.
Ya'll training the dogs? Love to chase them like that. If I use a rifle, headshot, I don't wanna trail a wounded boar!!! Nice hog. Bacon...
Thanks! Yes we are training and trying to get some more dogs we have one Catahoula, and the other two are Weimaraners that we are just playing around with but we are set on getting some Black Mouth Curs.
As for shooting them with a rifle I concur on the headshots! We have runners from time to time and I don't like to chase them into the brush. I just recently started using the .458 SOCOM round and it looks very promising on hogs. I'm loading the Barnes TAC-X 300 gr. bullet for the hogs.
I was rotating my .308 and .223 from time to time I shoot them both suppressed but the 308 with suppressor is heavy and long so I usually just use it when we setup at the feeders and stick to the .223 AR for stalking them at night with the NV mounted behind my EOTech the AR is a fun piece of kit but sometimes you aim at the head, hear a thud, they do a dance and off they go running. I'm using 55 gr. V-Max bullets on my .223 I might try loading something different soon or check my zero haha!
