I Find that a continental grip is much more effective for backhand groundstrokes. Eastern is generally good for most cases. Maybe fed likes to change it up a bit. I change my grip slightly when hitting groundstrokes as opposed to normal shots.

@turok97 eastern

@turok97 yeah, that surprised me too

Because at that speed hitting it, it would wouldn't u move if he hit u at that speed

He generates so much racquet head speed, its insane. Only Gonzo has that level in the modern game. Fed's forehand isn't the flattest shot on tour, but a sort of deadly combination of speed and topspin. Whats incredible to me is that the power is mostly generated from his unwinding motion (like a snake), rather than from his arms (like Gonzo)

he plays with a semi-western grip ?
federer uses a modern version of the eastern forehand grip. the "old" version is just a continental grip with the base of the index finger on the third bevel. as for his BH slice he uses continental, the only reason anyone could think that he uses any other grip is because his grip size is smaller than what is recommended for him, so the racket tends to rotate in his hand at contact. i believe his topspin backhand is a normal eastern backhand grip
