Original poem and music by Maestro Eddie C. McCloud

THE LIVING DEAD
By Eddie C. McCloud

This I'll address to certain ones among the masses
The same ones that idly sit around on their asses
Because of their apathy I've now been led
To label these sad folks as "The Living Dead"
They do nothing all day
But let time pass away
Yet come the first sign
Of trouble they whine
You'd think by the way they complain
That they had a monopoly on pain
While the rest of us march and boycott
Their only concern's keeping what they've got
Ask them to sign a petition
You'll only be met with suspicion
"Why you wanna go stirring up mess?," they ask
Yet in the glory of the outcome they'll not fail to bask
All the while you're fighting
They are busy hiding
When the fighting's over and the victory won
Then you see them reappear each and every one
Slowly now they come up to you each one swaggers
With fake smiles shaking hands all the while wielding daggers
They claim that they knew you could do it all along
But be mindful for folks like them speak with forked tongues
Far worse than a leech
No one they'll dare to teach
Knowledge to them is not a thing to share
For the next generation they've no love or care
They haven't a clue for it oft goes unsaid
But these are the ones I call "The Living Dead"
Their souls so long lost
They can't calculate the cost
The price they paid was dear
Every day ruled by fear
My friends I beseech you don't let this moment pass
Stand up and be counted, raise your voice, get off your ass
We've got babies crying
In the streets our people dying
Instead of us fighting
We should all be uniting
We need to go back to the learning tree
And adopt that tried and true age old philosophy
That each one needs to teach one
Even if we only reach one
Free your heart step out of self
Lend a hand to someone else
Let your mind too then be freed
Help someone teach them to read
If our lives be all connected
Hope we shall see resurrected
If you hear this message and heed not what I've said
Then count yourselves amongst the ranks of "The Living Dead"
