Corkscrew - Alton Towers

The Corkscrew, a ride that led the way for rollercoasters in both Great Britain and the World over, continued to thrill for almost three decades. Unveiled to an audience of over 30,000 visitors in April 1980, the popular rollercoaster was a hit with all ages, from the just tall enough, brave 8 year olds to the Granddads, riding to prove they're never too old to have fun.

Over the 28 years, the Corkscrew carried a whopping 43.5 million riders and has travelled over 820,000 miles to date the equivalent distance of travelling to the moon and back nearly four times!

Sadly, the Corkscrew was beginning to show its age, and Alton Towers removed it at the end of the 2008 season, to make room for larger, more modern developments in the area.

A special goodbye event was held in Alton Towers on the 9th November, where it conducted its very last run on its 750m track.

@MattBD95 Have you ever been on the one at Flamingo land?  Coz I've been one the one at Flamingo land and the one at Alton towers. The Alton towers one didn't hurt but the Flamingo land one did. Then again I think I was like 10.
