Yes, it does, just go to tools--> word count, and it tells you the wc for the "current selection" and the whole document.

Not sure what OS you're using or if you have backup software, but doing Time Machine backups on my Mac has saved my ass on similar occasions.
One time a preference file became corrupt and I would have had to reinstall the entire Adobe Creative Suite if it weren't for Time Machine!
If you do automated backups, just restore the file from a previous version. If you don't back up regularly, consider this a hard lesson learned... and I do sympathize since I've been there myself.

HEY GUYS THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!!!
I messaged the owner of this vid, but he's not answering, so if one of you can thx! So anyways, I was writting like A 25 page book an my lil bro typed something up on the comp. and when it asked if he would like to save changes to the document he didn't type in a file name, rather he pressed my file name and pressed save. I'm not sure, but I think he overwrote it cuz THE SAME FILE NAME IS THERE but his thing is on it. If you have an answer PLEASE GET BACK TO ME!
