After being released into the wild, mentally unstable and physically drained from the post-traumatic stress of her long war between artificial intelligence and human testing, Chell admits herself to the Bright Dawn Treatment Center, a psychotherapy hospital built by Cave Johnson in the 1970's to help their test subjects get back on their feet after multiple rigorous tests... to continue testing.

1 year Before Cave Johnson died, He ordered mandatory, unspeakably horrifying experiments to be done on anyone who was admitted to his treatment facility. a year later, Mr. Johnson took his own life, leaving Caroline to become the head executive and CEO, and fix all of the problems caused by his lack of restraint and common sense. Bright Dawn was boarded up and hidden forever by workers, just outside the wheat field. Any evidence of this place existing was disposed of and employees vowed to never mention it again. Caroline was going to contact authorities, and report what had happened, she knew her limits and boundaries when it came to science, and she had to stop everyone and the entire company right where they were. In that very moment, the anxiety-filled employers picked up Caroline and threw her into deceased CJ's ordered project, unocupied and recently completed brain-mapping machine, completing Cave Johnson's final over-the-top will, and keeping Caroline quiet about what had happened, forever.
