I think you're an awesome mom. Unlike the Westboro, you actually teach your kids what their signs mean. I saw a Westboro protest vid where a kid was holding up a sign that read "God hates fags" and he didn't know what a fag was.

HSe cannot sing the Star Spnagle Banner

@ByTor190 Well she's trying to teach her kids not to be part of those hateful people. It didn't look like there was much violence or hatred there. As long as the WBC isn't there then I think they are safe.

She fucking retarded

@jessicakennon I wouldn't bring my kids (with me) to a gay rights protest simply because of some of the ignorant and potentially vulgar/violent people that may show up. I don't think I would want them to be exposed to that sort of hatred at a young age.

@ByTor190 I'm not implying that you are, but you did say that you think children aren't ready for these kind of things. Why not?I mean like she said it's about tolerance. Children should be taught about tolerance as soon they can. Also, I was saying to you that love and acceptance isn't about politics. She isn't teaching the children about how the government treats gays in certain circumstances she's teaching her children to accept gay people because that's how they were born.
It's all well and good to teach tolerance and acceptance to children...but bringing them to an event like this may be kind of overdoing it. Lets apply Newtons laws, every action will product and opposite and/or equal reaction. If there are GAY RIGHTS protesters, there will be NO-GAY RIGHTS protesters. I just bring the issue of safety into question.

@saphirereflection this is actually a very important point to consider, and one I did take into consideration. First of all, what I focused on to the kids was that I was going to stand up for something I thought was right, because it's important that we do that sometimes.
I brought two guys with us and was prepared to leave quickly if there was any trouble. There were protesters across the street with their own signs, and I explained that those people had a right to peacefully disagree too.

I don't think kids should be influenced politically quite like this, but at least you're doing it right.

@ByTor190 I actually tried to be careful not to push a specific "agenda" on them, but I think it's ok to teach a kid that a) mom stands up for what she believes in and b) the general idea of be loving and supporting is good.
