As I have been living in Japan since 1985 I thought I'd gather some of my favourite recent videocam shots of this lovely country to show everyone and to thank the Japanese people for their beauty, refinement and humour. The first section was shot last week while I was in Tateshina, Nagano, taking a short break from the continuous aftershocks that were happening here in Tokyo. As you will see, there's no food shortage here, the mums (and a few dads) have seen to that! The feats of the traditional juggler in the last two minutes are jaw-dropping. The music is untitled and is taken from my archive of live solo improvs.
Arigato Nihon! Gambatte ne!

(Here's a transcript of Morgan's commentary in the first section)

OK, so we're in a local supermarket in Tateshina, buying some nice goodies, all natural stuff. Black azuki beans - I've never seen those before. Most of these things are produced locally, and when I say locally, I mean by individuals like this. Here they are - look at that - look how many there are.

All these individual people have been producing vegetables and fruits and flowers. They're selling them in the supermarket, and each one has the person's name written on it. Is that the person's name right there? OK, there's the person's name, I gather. Maybe it's this person. Anyway, they all look super genki [healthy]. There's men too, you know. So - doesn't that make you feel hungry?

There's also not only food but little flower arrangements. Pretty little sandals - if you can see that - 890 yen for a nice pair of handmade sandals. Other colourful goods, a little bit of jewellery there, dried flowers, more dried flowers, pine cones. There you are - a big Thank You to the ladies and gentlemen of Tateshina!
