  • Why there was no scream in 4th part ?

    Anyway very nice performance, congratulations

  • The scream heard in Harri Ahmas's recording is erroneous, actually. The notation of 'clamore' is (now) understood to be a scream with the bassoon, not a vocalization. The 1978 recording by Valeri Popov, who worked with Gubaidulina in preparing the piece, does not feature an actual scream, but its limited distribution outside the USSR confused things for years afterwards. Dr. Jeff Lyman from University of Michigan has published some good scholarship on this issue.

    Thank you for listening!
