Victory Not Vengeance Nation - Carbon

Lyrics
------

A million points of light ascending to the sky
Monuments in darkness standing watch until the sun will rise
Screaming to an emptiness of how we deified ourselves
With our hands over eyes, claiming all of creation.
What inspires in us this madness
That our existence should be defined
By a light that cant be seen by anyone?
What inspires in us this madness
That our existence should be defined
By a light that we cant see?

A million points of light ascending to the sky
Monuments in darkness standing watch until the sun will rise
I cant see this all as progress
How did we come this far when we see ourselves as deities,
Claim nature for ourselves?
By our actions we betray the instincts in our race
By our blindness and stupidity
We kill everything, we kill everything.

Can someone see our self destruction?
Are we reminding ourselves that our existence is so delicate
That without this light we are no more?
That without this light weve made we are no more.

A million points of light ascending to the sky
Monuments in darkness standing watch until the sun will rise
We torch the earth until it bleeds, rain ashes from the sky
Just to make a light that no one can see
We cut the earth until it bleeds, rain ashes from the sky
Just to make a light that no one can see.
Just to make a light. Just to make a light
We kill everything
By our blindness and stupidity
We kill everything.

In a thousand years what will be our legacy a million lights that no one could see?

A million points of light.

  • @bubblezandchubz

That's your opinion and that's fine, you're not a hater man, you're just not a fan which is fine.

  • the first good VNV song in a while, and by good i mean its amazing. too bad their only good songs are sad ones.

  • Too bad your opinion doesn't speak for everyone...

All of their songs are amazing.

  • I support the idea and all and I love VNV Nation but isn't it a bit ironic how they contributed towards this as well?

  • All humans contribute toward it. The way we have set up our civilization forces even the most "green" people to contribute to it. Think about it, maybe you're a nature activist going to a rally. Even getting in the car to get to that rally is contributing.

  • @santo4600

It's not the way our civilization is set up. It's the way our people think about things. We tend toward active expression rather than passive action. We attend rallies and demonstrations rather than start walking or biking to work every day. No one is forced to contribute to our species' carbon footprint. Many people simply choose to because it's healthier or more convenient than going Amish-style.

  • @grurrn I agree, no one is forced to contribute. It's just the way everything is, and where it's going is making it harder and harder to break the mold. As to your comment about how it's not the way our civilization is set up, I also agree. But remember, it's the way that people think, that start a civilization and "set it up". We can retain our technology to an extent without going Amish-style. It just takes effort and money. Both of which people are reluctant to spend, especially in this day.

  • this isn't my genre..not even close. i listen to prog rock and folk and jazz and all kinds of metal...yet this is one of the greatest songs ive ever heard.

  • If I ever do get my screenplay written and approved...this will be the song they play for the intro. There isn't any doubt in my mind. I'd have to have them.

    VNV Nation is absolutely phenomenal.

  • I dont consider this a sad song, I see it as an external/semi-emotional view of our world.

  • Someone.... bring me a million candles....

  • not trying to be a hater or anytging but the vocals are actually terrible they're out of tune, it doesn't match the music and its just plain boring

  • @phreeck988 True, and earth's temperature and co2 levels have been higher in the past hundreds o millions of years before people. The only difference is that today the climate is changing at an unprecedented rate. A change of 2 degrees Celsius in global temperature over 1,000 years is considered "very fast" by geologists, and that change was caused by a giant volcano.

  • @22JaneDoe Actually, CO2 levels are higher than they have been in several million years, and while natural processes can and do contribute to climate change, in the entire 4,600,000,000 years of earth'd history the climate has changed so quickly. carbon dioxide levels may be caused by climate change, but they also cause the change, leading to a deadly cycle (planet heats up, CO2 increases, planet heats up more, so on). Also the last time levels were this high 95% of life on earth was wiped out.

  • 1 person can't see all this as progress

  • @santo4600

I think VNV peaked with Empires ... their more recent stuff has become a bit preachy, and less abstract.

  • Global warming was invented to put thousands of people into work. The warming is actually perfectly normal, the Earth’s climate is always changing and has been far colder and hotter than it is now. Carbon actually does not control the temperatre, it simply rises and falls with the temerature.

  • First heard this some years ago but keep coming back to it!
