On 14 April 1988, the USS Samuel B. Roberts hit an Iranian mine in the Persian Gulf. Four days later, the U.S. Navy struck back in a daylong campaign called Operation Praying Mantis. It is described in this USN public affairs news show.

("No Higher Honor: Saving the USS Samuel B. Roberts in the Persian Gulf," a new book about the Roberts mining, will be released by Naval Institute Press in July 2006. For more information, visit www.nohigherhonor.com.)

  • RichGilly; that shows how trustworthy the Americans are! And that is why Iran is making its own weapons now.

By the way, was it in this operation or another operation that USS Vincennes (the crown of the state of the art of the US marine) shot down an Iranian airliner (Iran Air Flight 655) and killed all 290 passengers and crews?

  • USS Vincennes (CG 49) shot down Iran Air Flt 655 on 03 Jul 88 after mistaking it for an Iranian F-14, killing 224 adults, 66 kids. On 22 Feb 96 the U.S. agreed to pay Iran $61.8 million in compensation ($300,000 per wage earning victim, $150,000 per non wage earner) Get your facts straight!

    Are, school's out.

  • @TheodorePike and you could hide yourself in your momy's pussy P/S "YOUR MOMY "

  • It's time to bomb Iran now.

  • @MachTwo1 I am not no "arm-chair general", but rather a general citizen of this great nation in which we're allowed to speak freely and to critise. I very much appreciate the service you've put in protecting this nation. I just wish that it would've been more directed to that purpose at that time.

  • @tarmac2001 Yeah because we were forced to play that hand which that weak nieve POS Carter dealt us after he turned his back on our ally Shah Reza Puhlavi causing him to be overthrown and ushering in radical islam with Ayatollah Khomeini filling the power vacuum. At the time, Saddam was considered to be the "lessor of two evils" so we armed him to stave off Iran. You armchair generals have the benefit of hindsight, something that we who served in the gulf back then did not.

  • @Salahuddin2009a

american soldiers that get killed by Iranian proxies are just the start of the payback

  • We will revenge one day, Six US warships with all crews must be destroyed sooner or later, God willing.

  • @rodri513 You're full of shit.

  • LoL, at that time we were kissing Saddam Hussein's ass.
