Operation Praying Mantis news clip

On 14 April 1988, the USS Samuel B. Roberts hit an Iranian mine in the Persian Gulf. Four days later, the U.S. Navy struck back in a daylong campaign called Operation Praying Mantis. It is described in this USN public affairs news show.

USS Vincennes (CG 49) shot down Iran Air Flt 655 on 03 Jul 88 after mistaking it for an Iranian F-14, killing 224 adults, 66 kids. On 22 Feb 96 the U.S. agreed to pay Iran $61.8 million in compensation ($300,000 per wage earning victim, $150,000 per non wage earner) Get your facts straight!
