Here's how WSBK-TV 38 Boston signed off at 1:00 PM on 6/12/09. As with their sister station WBZ, there was no acknowledgement of the sign off at all.

  • That sucks, I am not sure if any other Boston/Manchester stations are to still sign off (10:03 on my clock). I hope to see like an old school signoff on one of the analog signals if any are still intact the last couple of hours.

  • I'll be set up to record 2, 5, and 7 when they're scheduled to go off tonight just before midnight. Maybe someone else will be able to record 56, 66, or even 9 from Manchester.

  • Don't want to totally disclose my home location, but I am in the Manchester side of the DMA (I don't disclose my area, I like to be neutral since I comment often of other stations in other markets.), but I am able to get WMUR via cable. Not sure if my Comcast gets them via OTA. I don't have a PC/TV tuner to record, at least not yet. I am somewhat clueless on this transition, lots of vague info, happens to the best of us. ;o)

  • You won't see anything go off if you're getting WMUR via cable.

  • So, did they transfer to digital, or was that all for them?

  • i was getting into that episode!!! lol

  • I'm not going to argue with that comment at all, as I'm sure there were FCC rules... but again, I think the stations should of had a warning just before the analog was turned off so people weren't taken by surprise.

  • @rickhh1 they were required to do that 10 minutes per hour.

  • I love how it ended lmfao

  • YOU WERE LATE, WHY SHOULDN'T YOU PAY?

  • I realize that we've been given a warning of the DTV switch a long time ago, but I really think every station should have at least had a crawl giving people a warning of what was about to happen.

I wonder how many people were scared or startled when their TV signal went to snow ALL THE SUDDEN across the country.

  • Channel 2 was rerunning /Beat the Press/, and prior to that no special announcement, or a crawl for that matter. I wasn't surprised to expect that, giving that GBH really doesn't care for much history.

  • I contacted local stations in Syracuse NY prior to the sign off requesting that they do so the way stations use to--with the playing of our National Anthem.

Only two did. Most ended in the middle of programming

Several stations nationwide did a good job. "You Tube" stations KING, KLRU ( both Canadian and American National Anthems), WSRE (explained it, but did not aired it), KLRU (probably one of the best!) and others.

For the most part, it seems like the PBS stations did it the most.

  • Channel 2 i didnt observe, at least not until a few minutes after 5 switched over to the DTV help program, and i found a different program helping you get ready on that station. Thats my experience with the DTV transition tonight, it was pretty fun, like i speculated. All we are doing now is awaiting the flash-cuts to digital. My patience is thinning though, and i probably will peter out before it happens.
