He needs the energy tanks for the speed booster moves since they drain your energy everytime you unleash.

why'd he go for that energy tank after kraid? Id think someone doing a run like this would be able to survive without it and it seems like quite a ways out of his way.

plus you gotta have a few tanks by the end. mother brain's rainbow attack beam takes three tanks in one hit; you have to survive one of those, and even the best player will have taken some damage by then.
