@sajo1111111 i wouldn't hold your breath. the chips weren't just for sound, they were memory mappers to increase cartridge size. Only a handful of games actually used the sound expansion option on those chips. For the NES to use them, someone would have to engineer a connector for the expansion port on the bottom that would override the top socket. I'd have to look at the diagram again, but I think that would mean bypassing the lockout chip somehow.

@themadmallard actually, on the console itself there are some pins that connect the expansion port on the NES' bottom to the cartridge connector, eventually there will probably be a peripheral created that can connect the different sound modules to the American consoles.

@gravywpg the NES did not have the pins in the game socket to connect to the VRC6. only famicoms did.
