This video is showing how to make a mohawk on a crochet cap. You will cut several strands of yarn. I used strands slightly over 4 inches long. You fold the strands in half and, wrap around the hook at the halfway point, insert the hook below stitch strand on the cap, wrap the two strands over and pull them through.

I decided to use the puff stitch cap because it appears to be a more challenging stitch, than a regular stitch.

  • I have a board with 2 nails in it 24 inches apart. I wrap the yarn around both nails & then cut on the outside of each nail. Cuts down on how tedious making braids can be. LOL This would work for making mohawks to, just put the nails closer together.

  • @texasmoocow Great suggestion, thank you

  • I have an idea for an easy way to make the strands for the mohawk. Cut a piece of cardboard to desired length, wrap yarn around and then cut both ends. That should give you same length strands quick and easy.

  • I've been wanting to make a mohawk hat for my son for a couple months now. I never thought about doing it this way. Thank you so much for this Teresa!

  • I was thinking you could just keep your fingers apart and wrap around them alot.

  • A toilet paper roll is 4 and 1/2 inches. I folded int flat and wrapped the yarn around it, leaving a little opening on the end so I could get my scissors inside to cut the yarn in half. It worked SO much faster, and I think it was easier.

  • make pom poms and sew em all on.

's how my wife does it. hth!

  • Wrap the yarn around.a cardboard square .then cut across the top.and bottom. That way you can wrap it super fast and have little variation in yarn lengths.

  • I just finished up a latchhook project. I never thought of using that needle for grabbing yarn in needlework. Thanks for the idea.

  • An easier way to get the strands for the mohawk is to wrap the yarn around and around a credit card and then cut off of card :-)

  • I google'd "wire cat brush" and amazon had a hit along with google shopper having items you can order... they were roughly 2$

  • Can you do a tutorial on the latch hook? I can remember doing it with my mom when I was young..I would really appreciate it..it would bring back so many good memories :)
