2008 and 2010 has the best mascots. They have meaning and represent the olympics nicely.

The 2010 ones looked like Native American versions of these ones.

@fiercefunky Yeah, me too. I actually went with my mum to the Bay to get one, they were on sale at the end of the Olympics but only at 25% off, and she had a heart attack at how big they were! LMAO! I told her they were big, but she didn't expect them to be THAT big!

@oneangrybanana I am right there with you. I so regret not getting the giant Quatchi when I had the chance. One day I'm sure I'll get the chance again and snap him up lol.
-
@Danzhomevideos I meant I have a lot of them (like a litter of puppies, ie: more than one); 7 Quatchies, 5 Mukmuks, 3 Migas, 3 Sumis (I think...LOL). Still luvs them all, even tho the Olympics have long since ended! Wish I bought the gigantic Quatchi.....i had no room for him, he woulda taken up my entire area of my bed.......darn. and he's waaaay to furry for the summer!
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Having mascots for the winter or summer Olympics degrades the games. It becomes a cheap commercialized joke. A way to squeeze as much profit out of the event as possible, not to mention cheapening the entire purpose of the games.
AND REALLY!!! If your going to have mascots.. at least make them something a person could be proud of. They make it look like a cheesy kids show, and the actual mascot outfits are even worse.
My opinion yes, but so many others share my views.

I think far more people would disagree with you. What's wrong with an aspect of the Olympics appealing to a younger generation too? Are mascots a marketing and commercial tool? Absolutely. But that's what logos and emblems are all about. Why does McDonalds have Ronald and the golden arches? Why does Fila or Kappa have a logo? If you're not into the mascots, don't buy their merchandise. But it doesn't degrade the games just to have them. They don't cheapen the spirit of the Olympics.

Using McDonald's as one of your examples somewhat strengthens my point... However, that could have been a poorly chosen example on your part. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt there.
If the purpose of the Olympic mascot is to attract a younger audience, then it should be directed at a slightly older age. Say 15 - 25, where individuals can grasp more meaning and importance of what the Olympics really mean to us. It feels like they are directed at preschool kids... Sigh....

I think 15-25 the sport is enough. Calgary '88 what I remember most was Heidi & Howdy the polar bears. I wanted dolls of them so badly. It started my life long love of the Olympics. So from personal experience, I see their value.
It is something of a shame that profits must be made and commercialization of the games must occur but when we are no longer living in a world where groups or individuals would seek to use violence to promote their agendas then we no longer need to pay for security.
