How do you find packet radio in your area? Is it busy? It was starting to fizzle out a wee bit when I left radio in 2002 or so but i hear there is a resurgence recently, especially for emergency comm's. Apparently they are working on extending and linking the network here in Ontario. Waiting for my 2 tncs to arrive (old Kam Plus vhf/hf and a signalink USB soundcard interface). Hope there'll be ppl to communicate with once it all gets here lol

Packet radio is almost extinct here albeit for a few diehard hams. Most everyone has upgraded to General and gone to the digital HF bands.

Interesting ... Hams had there own networks and antenna to antenna / home to home data communications systems. Beit slow, (1200 / 9600 - later) but it was fine for text chat, email and message posting to bb-systems. I can remember local hams around here, were sending software programs back and forth via their TNCs, computers and radios. The computer programs were much smaller back then to. One popular program for use with the TNC's, was Packet 6.1 .. Updated to 6.2 for y2k. Thanks .. RN63
