The level of quality control in the Royal Enfield factory is very low, almost non existent. As well as a factory worker dropping a shim inside the timing case, someone else incorrectly machined the barrel and someone else left a hand print under the gloss of the fuel tank. both the tank and barrel were replaced at 54kms under warranty but there is no warranty for the damage done by the shim left in by the factory during assembly.
SO BUYER BEWARE.

If I knew what would happen with mine, I may not have bought it in 2006. Recently I had to pull the engine down, the big end blew after 23,000 kms. I thought it was my fault for not noticing an oil leak soon enough. When I pulled the timing cover off I found a thick shim, from the timing gears, had been dropped into the case during factory assembly and it had lodged against the pump spindle splines causing the oil pump to fail. I am very lucky that no more than that had occurred.

@prakashjk the locally distributed Bullet is about 3 to 4 thousand dollars Australian, cheaper than here in Australia so you are much better off than we are. The only difference is the quality of finish. This new version, the export model is priced out of reach from most Indians and me for that matter. I don't think the factory will survive on export sales alone, it is a very expensive copy of the 1951 model, without the reliability.

@chrisjackjaydenceana stick with your '62 model this new one is way over priced. Here in Australia it is close to $10,000, just over $1000 more than I paid for my 2006 model. You would be better off putting the extra up to buy a Triumph 750. It would sound just as good and go twice as fast for the same or less economy. And it would be more reliable.
