Fess parker will ALWAYS be the best Davy Crockett! Fess parker portrays him as a legend while John wayne makes too much of a hero out of him.

It's a pity Colonel William Travis was never mentioned, historically he was in charge of the defence of the Alamo while Bowie was sick. The guy who played him in the film was referred to simply as "Colonel".

At least in the John Wayne film 'The Alamo', Travis's name is not only mentioned, but he's brilliantly played by big star Laurence Harvey.

The real Davy Crockett holds the record for the most bear killed in one season. Something like 118. These were the days they ate bear regularly in winter and nothing was wasted, meat or fur.

He talked about how difficult hunting was because the land was so torn apart from the great earth quake of 1817 that toppled trees and left 5 ft deep gullies in the area for miles.
