Wild Rice is easy to grow. This clip is from the program "Grains & Legumes" which is part of the DVD series on the propagation of world food crops. This educational DVD is now available at www.horticulturevideos.com. Rice images were collected from the Philippines, Indonesia, California and Europe.
Threshing wild rice is mostly done by hand in wild wetlands because the grains fall off the stalks, or shatter,so easily. Wild rice could be regarded as a "super food" for it's high levels of folic acid, niacin and protein.
Here's a link for an article on the benefits of wild rice-

Does wild rice come from Non-Hybrid, Non-GMO, organic seedstock? Sadly, some hybrid forms of wild rice have been introduced and are often sold as organic! Wild rice, in it's orginal form, is of course an open-pollinated cereal, like most wind-pollinated wild grains, and could be considered an heirloom even though there are no named varieties of "heirloom" wild rice(just long-standing species). Wild rice could certainly be considered organic, but in most cases it's actually "wild crafted" which is even better than organic culture. The wild-crafted plants are growing in their natural wetland environment and may impart their wild vitality to the consumer. The grains are harvested and threshed right into the canoe as it glides through the wild habitat. Here's a great clip on the harvesting and curing process-
