The Vet sedated the dog. Infestation to that degree requires an extensive amount of digging around in the holes made by these maggots in order to ensure getting them all out. And if these are Screwfly maggots they are very sensitive to movement and react by screwing themselves (nose and mouth first) downward deeper into the wound making it very difficult to retrieve. and this will no doubt cause severe pain for the dog.The dog is much better off not feeling any of this long painstaking process.
Is this dog dead it didn't close it's eyes which would be a normal reaction to someone touching the eye
