The 80's?! Some great talent came out of that decade. If anything/decade is to blame, it'd be the 90's or 2000's. Hip-hop and bubblegum divas. Yikes! ZERO talent.

I guess this was before he hit the big time. i like his music and used to listen to it a lot during my boating and drinking days which i must say are long gone now. So is all the money I spent at the drive your boat up coctail lounges for lunch and so on. Plus of course the on board coctail bar which consited of a cooler full of ice a bottle of scotch, Rum and other needed nessesities. Oh yes it was stars on the water every weekend night. And on the fourth always fireworks from the boat.

Exactly. I went back to the Keys during the summer of "77" when Margaritaville was the only thing one heard on the radio; and the atmosphere felt that just perhaps you were seeing something precious die; as though you could almost hear Hemmingway say, "Ok, it's time we pack up the cats and hit the road"

This is one sad song. I don't mean it's bad. It's BRILLIANT. I think he made the video as upbeat as he did because it would be too depressing if it actually depicted the song. I'm glad he and Jane ended up together in the end. It makes the lyrics a little easier to take. Jimmy Buffett is an inspiration. He had a beat up old truck and a small fishing boat when the video was made. Today he's worth more than $400 million dollars--and he did it by being true to his passions. Gives one hope. ;-)

great honest story. Many people think most successful musicians start out on top and its an easy life when in fact in real life it is just the opposite. thank you starsonwater1 for the post and thank you Jimmy for being so candid.

Holy bananas; did anyone else think that banana was going to get smashed down her throat after the orange was smashed in his face? I like to think Jimmy was like, "OK then, after you come back around to showing her face, the banana will be cut up, and they'll all breathe a sigh of relief! Yeah, that'll be funny" Strange picture to go with such a not funny song, that I've loved for so long.
