Aretha told me that she was inspired by Bessie. She also wanted to portray Bessie in film, but that was back in the Seventies.
BTW, Norah Jones is totally out of place in this video.

i don't know for sure if that is true. i know that aretha was heavily inspired by dinah washington and dinah was influenced by bessie, i mean she made a whole tribute album to bessie. she maybe thats where it comes from so maybe she was

the only thing is that the film st louis blues was made in 1929 not 1925......talkies weren't even made in 1925

the pic at :58 is not Bessie. That Ma' Rainey. But...its ok.
...and Norah Jones doesnt really come close to Bessie. ...but oh well....tks
