we both bought complete boards, i'm on a beginner level board with slower bearings, jake's bearings are no. 5s. having a lot of fun actually.

Some more 'words of encouragement' for yourselves;

At my local skatepark there are both children and adults who are beginners alike. Occasionally there are a few self-contained sniggers from the mouths of adolescent males who deem themselves fantastic at skateboarding, but that is to be expected from our species.

Unless you are at arthritic age, there is nothing stopping you learning except for yourself. Most definitely carry on!
