@hawkmoon03111951 I didn't get a ticket check during the ride. I got off at Crewe, ran across to the other side of the platform and entered a totally empty train going back to Birmingham to pick up commuters. I had a "Any route" ticket anyway , so as long as I didn't go through a turnstyle to leave a station, I would be fine, except for the embarrassment of explaining about getting on the wrong train when my ticket might get checked.
