from the movie: barsaat

this is something called #haya and sharam# which in english you translate as honour and shyness which don,t exist in europe and this is a part of our culture and religions.this so called eye contact is not very important at that time as the rest of the life is.
i belong to land of afghans and we all asians are proud of such things which i rarely see here. i,m not critisizing as every socity has its values and culture so if anyone take it offensive my apologies.
regards

Who sings this song?

I'd say its partly cultural but also something that comes naturally when all eyes are on you and you're about to be married. The bride looks down to show modesty and some shyness. She becomes a 'blushing bride'. The bride's eyes don't have to be glued to the ground at all times, I think its mostly when the groom comes.. modesty also applies to the groom too, but he shows it in a different way.

I am a teacher in Prague in the Czech Republic. We are covering weddings in our class. Please help me here because I know my students will ask. I've looked at quite a few Indian and Bangladeshi weddings, Punjabi and so on. The bride always looks down, and there is virtually no eye contact between bride and groom during the ceremony. Afterwards when dancing and so on they often seems like just a normal couple. So, is this downcast eyes thing a cultural requirement at the wedding? Beautiful video.

It is true, she is so beautiful, but looks unhappy, maybe it is some sort of custom where the bride should look reserved and shy. She held her head down. I wish it is different than it appears.
