Since the 1980s several grazing methods have been touted as able to make ranching not just benign, but even beneficial to landscapes and the wildlife they support. Among the most notable of these methods in the U.S. have been those developed and promoted by Allan Savory. Over the years his grazing methods have successively been named "Savory Grazing Method," "Holistic Resource Management," and most recently, "Holistic Management."
As an employee of the Arizona Game and Fish Department since the early 1950s, Steve Gallizioli saw first hand the damage that ranching was inflicting on public lands in Arizona. So when Gallizioli learned about Allan Savory's grazing method, he hoped it would solve the conflict between ranchers and wildlife advocates. In this interview, Gallizioli talks about his experiences with Allan Savory and with Holistic Resource Management.
This video is an excerpt from a longer interview with Steve Gallizioli, the transcript of which is contained in WESTERN TURF WARS: THE POLITICS OF PUBLIC LANDS RANCHING. See http://westernturfwars.com for details.
