From the album "Be Not Nobody"

Always liked this song. It's good fun to play along to - nice simple back beat with a lot of room for fancies and great energy in the last chorus.

First recording I've done utilising old stereo speakers as microphones. They're surprisingly good at picking out the boomyness of the rack toms, so I shall be using these to record from now on (until I can afford some actual proper tom microphones :D)

The gubbins:

Mixing equipment:
Yamaha AW1600

Microphones:
Shure SM57 (Snare)
Shure PG58 (Floor tom)
Samson C01 condenser (Overhead)
Samson Q-kick (Kick drum)
Two old Yamaha hifi speakers as reso head microphones on the Mid-high and Mid-low toms.

Kit:
Gretsch Catalina Ash 6 piece
8" High tom
10" Mid-High tom
12" Mid-low tom
14" Floor tom
14" Snare (Wooden)
14" Snare (Steel Premier Cabria)
22" Bass Drum

Bass pedal is a Mapex P380A
21" Paiste PST3 ride
17" Paiste Alpha rock crash
16" Paiste PST3 crash
12" Paiste Alpha Rhythm-X hats
10" Meinl Classics splash,

A Thousand Miles is the copyrighted property of Vanessa Carlton

Enjoy!

  • Hey, how do u have ur mics positioned?? Where do u have the overheads etc?

  • @BENPLUNGERSPLUNKETT There's only 1 overhead, and it's just out of the camera's shot, pointing down the centre of the kit. Snare and floor tom mics are pointed about 2 inches into the drum, about 2 inches away from the head, pointing towards the centre. Rack tom mics are underneath pointing towards the centre. Kick drum mic is inside the middle of the drum pointing towards the beater.

  • nice drumming its so clean.. what crash are u using?

  • @khelsaki Ones a Paiste alpha 17 rock crash, the other is a Paiste PST3 15 crash. Need to upgrade that one at some point...

  • Very nice, which mics do you use? cheers.

  • @TomWrightTheDrummer Stuff like that is in the information of the video
